ChildhoodChris Paul was born in Lewisville, North Carolina in 1985. He is the second son of Charles Edward Paul and Robin Jones, two years after his brother, Charles Paul, in 1983. His parents were childhood friends who grew up in Winston-Salem. His dad was once an athlete with great experience also. He taught his boys basketball and football and coached them in on different sports teams in their childhood. Paul was a great athlete. People described him as gifted. He went to the national Pop Warner football championships playing quarterback and linebacker on the Junior Pee Wee team called the Lewisville Titans. He also won many AAU national tournaments in basketball. He was pretty successful as a kid, and still is. Off of the court and field, the two brothers spent both of their summers working at Jones Chevron, a car service station which was owned by their grandfather on their moms side, Nathaniel Jones. He was known in the city as "Papa Chili." Paul says that his grandfather is "his best friend" and credits many life lessons to him.
HighschoolChris Paul went to West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina. He played on the JV Basketball Team in freshman and sophomore year. In junior year, he made the Varsity Team, but at the time, his brother had already graduated. Paul soon signed his letter of intent to Wake Forest University to play for coach Skip Prosser. Sadly, his grandfather died the day after. He was beaten and robbed by a group of teenagers while he unloaded his groceries from his car. Paul was devastated, and during his next basketball game, he set and achieved a goal of scoring 61 points in honor of him. Each point counted for every year his "best friend" had lived. This just shows how much Chris really cared about his grandfather.
